Sisters, Not Twins

Adriana came to me with a unique need: she had two companies, a Jiu Jitsu gym and a physical therapy clinic, and wasn’t sure if she should have the same branding for both. After a discussion about her business, we decided that since she has two separate target audiences for each company, it was better to keep the branding different but similar enough that you could recognize them as being part of the same parent company.

The Design Process

Adriana expressed interest in including an octopus in her logo, as it symbolizes intelligence, change, wisdom, adaptability, and creativity…all values she wants her business to embody. I created an octopus icon in two different orientations and a softer, hand-written script font for each. Along with the variations in the octopus position, I used a deeper color palette for the Jiu Jitsu company and a brighter color palette for the physical therapy company to create two separate brand identities that play well together…sisters, not twins.
